You’re a gift

Recently I started Happy Roots Gifts Circle.

And the resounding thing I’m hearing is “I don’t have any gifts”. Or other explanations to why people think they don’t have anything to offer.

So.

1. That’s not true

And

2. If that’s what you think you definitely definitely need to come.

The gift isn’t giving a present. Or a thing. It’s giving a presence. Showing up intentionally for your highest good and for the greater good. For ourselves and for each other.

Sometimes we don’t know or realize what our gifts are. And sometimes we need to gather to find them, be inspired to bring them to the surface and get motivated to share them.

Just in my want to do this I have learned another of my gifts. This group is inspired by a gathering started by Christine Eartheart and in talking to her about she brought up what a special thing it is to want to do this. To hold the sacred space and create the safe container. It just seemed like something I needed to do, but I didn’t realize the reverence of it.

Because as gifts go it’s often something maybe we take for granted (not intentionally) but we think it’s a common ordinary thing everyone has or does or is.

Think about who you want to be and how you want to be and start showing up that way. For yourself and others. That’s the work, the work of digging deep and doing hard things and living in gratitude for this short blip of time called life we are grateful giving.

We’re doing real connecting heart-opening things. People are showing up and opening up and creating real connection and support.

And going to their first group yoga class since the pandemic.

And trying new things.

And learning more about who they are.

And sharing hard things.

And realizing they never dealt with a really painful thing that happened 4 years ago and maybe it’s time.

So.

This passage on “Your Gift” popped up in my feed today. And it was so super relevant I hope you take the time to read it and consider.

Life is short and you are a gift and have things to offer to whatever circle of influence you have. Don’t squander it. Maybe wonder what 90-year-old you would want you to do.

THE POEM

Your Gift 🙏

Each of us is born with something special,

a gift that’s only given just to us,

a talent or a quirk or a way of seeing life,

a knack of finding light amidst the dust.

It’s your special little gift that’s going to take you,

to the places you have dreamed of in your head,

it will open doors and bring in souls who marvel at your skills,

It will harvest joy and chase away the dread.

But there’s something that you must be quite aware of,

when it comes to knowing just what is your gift,

people search for theirs in silent vain their whole life though,

a thankless chase like that can cause a rift.

Your gift you see, is not always a grand one,

it’s not the being fast, or saving lives,

it’s not always the singing voice, the dancing feet or more,

it can sometimes be a simple quirk of life.

Your gift could be a constant splash of colour,

a way of showing light through cloudy days,

your gift could be the way you make others feel at peace,

or bring some calm to someone’s messy day.

Your gift could be your ears that always listen,

when someone is in need of being seen,

your gift could be the way you view the world as something small,

and believe that we are all just one big team.

Your gift could be the passions that you share,

with others who are not that way inclined,

spreading art and spreading music all across your world,

is something that can change a lot of minds.

So take a minute now to look within you,

and see what little gift you’ve stored away,

let it out and show it love and bring it to the front,

your gift will stay with you now, all the way.
